Putting Theology of the Body to Work for Your Marriage As a therapist who hears about the intimate lives of Catholic couples, I have a special interest in helping spouses bring the riches of Theology of the Body to their marriages. I’ve found some couples haven’t heard about John Paul II’s beautiful vision I endeavor to help bridge between the gap the Church’s sacred ideals of marriage and the reality many couples face. Catholics often need more practical guidance, and sometimes psychotherapy, to fulfill their sacred calling. As Christopher West notes in his article, The Agony and the Ecstasy of Being “In light of how many people believe the Church is 'down on sex,' the glories and ecstasies to which authentic Catholic teaching calls spouses in their union should be emphasized. But these glories and ecstasies are the fruit of embracing much purifying suffering. If the joy is not set before us, we will have no motivation to endure the suffering. 'For the joy set before him Christ endured the cross' (Heb 12:2).
